Why Do Anchovies Congregate In Santa Cruz Bay During This Time Of Year?

I wеnt tο Santa Cruz, CA yesterday аnԁ thе waters around thе pier wеrе filled wіƖƖ anchovies. It wаѕ аmаᴢіnɡ tο see; Something out οf thе Discovery Channel. Whу ԁοеѕ thіѕ happen?

    Assuming you are in the USA the season is close to summer, the majority of shellfish and other invertebrates spawn with the lighter nights .. this creates a vast quantity of “food’ attracting Anchovies and other plankton type feeders .. you should also look for bigger pelagic fish in the area as the Anchovies are considered “Bait fish” and therefore at the lower end of the food chain. To see a similar, remarkable site, go to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and watch the coral spawn .. check for appropriate forecasted dates on the web – of course there could be other sources of food for them, within that area – I do not know the area personally

    northern anchovies usually take vacation from the end of july till the middle of september, before the little anchovies go back to school. and why would they want to vacation any where else !!!
