Ucd Vs Ucsc? And How’s Ucsc’s Health Science Major Compare To Uc Davis’ Biomedical Engineering?
I got accepted to both UCD and UCSC but I am struggling about which one I should go. So here is what I’ve heard about them:
UCD has a better reputation and a higher rank; but what I heard is that it’s located in the middle of the country so it’s not that fun. This is my dream school just because of its reputation. However, all my friends got rejected and only me got in.
For UCSC, I heard it’s a “party school” with a lot of hippies. I actually don’t really care about this because I believe if you really study hard then you’ll still be fine. All my friends got in and I got in, too. So we can rent a house together. It’s very liberal and a more laid-back life style. Tutition and dorms are cheaper than UC Davis. More fun things to do, better social life.
So yeah, I am very confusing now. I work pretty hard in high school and I got in and I heard during this economic crisis it’s even harder to get in so I feel happy about it. However, my other very good friends, who are also want to go to Davis, all got rejected. That means if I go to davis, then I will have to go by myself with no friends I know.
If i go to UCSC, I have all my friends there and UCSC is more fun more activities. People are very cool there. But the reputation is not that good. And my sister keep telling me that if I got in Davis then I should definitely go to Davis because Davis is more superior. And I’ve heard about the “Pass or Fail” myth which scares me.
(The reason why I keep talking about my friends is just because they are my really good friends for years, they are just like my brothers and they are very important to me)
Now I am kinda more toward to UCSC because they have a major called Health Science which UC Davis doesnt have. If i go to Davis I would pick biomedical engineering. I wish I can work somewhere in a medical field such as a doctor assistance, nurse, or pharmacist.
I know I just keep finding evidence that would tell me that UCSC is better than UCD becaue I really want to go with my friends.
But considering majors, social life, friends, reputations, and my job in the feature, which one I should go?
thanks for you advise in advance!

Stumble it!

Do what you think is going to be good for your future. If you go to Davis, which is the far superior school, you won’t be with your old friends; but you’ll make new ones and you can still see your old ones during Thanksgiving/winter/spring breaks. If I were you, I would go to UC Davis. I heard about the UC admission cuts, so you should consider yourself lucky for getting into Davis while many others have not. Davis has a great engineering program, but if you decide to change your mind and switch to biology, the life science programs at Davis are excellent as well.
If you’re worried about social life in Davis, it’s really not that bad. New friends, prime location to nearby hotspots (Sac, SF, Tahoe), and many internship opportunities if you’re interested in becoming a nurse, doctor, or pharmacist.
Best thing to do is visit campus during the busy hours and audit a class. If you don’t like UCD, go ahead with UCSC. UCSC isn’t that bad of a school as many people perceive it to be. I’ve also heard about the P/NP deal…very interesting. The choice is yours. Good luck!
you should visit both schools in person so can get a feel for the campus. talk to current students there so you can get the inside scoop. also, UCD is located in a small town, but its located near Sacramento which is fun to go to on the weekends. make a pro and con list for each school and see how many pros outweigh the cons, go from there
