The Tubes – I Want It All Now 08/29/08

The Tubes – I Want It All Now @ The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Santa Cruz, Ca 08/29/08 Our next concert again took us on a trip to Santa Cruz, California. Every summer the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk features free Friday-night bands on the beach. This concert brought us the music of The Tubes. This was originally a San Francisco based band that was known for very lewd and pornographic stage shows in the late 1970s and early 1980s. So I was very curious to see the modern version, all cleaned-up and family friendly for the boardwalk. The band presently only has one original member: singer, Fee Waybill. I must say he is really a great entertainer. What a character. He did interject a tiny bit of crudity here and there, as everyone present expected. However, Fee did a great job of keeping it mild enough to be acceptable. The other thing that the band was known for was satirizing social/political issues, usually around media and consumerism. There was no shortage of that here. The band was jokingly discussing absurdities about the US presidential election and about McCain’s VP pick being “hot.” This was very funny banter that was reflective of present-day themes. Fee made it clear (in a light jovial manner) that he was endorsing Barack Obama. And is looking for him to do great things for the poor and disenfranchised. My wife and I both really enjoyed this show a great deal. Go see The Tubes they are great. I am now very curious to see one of their adult themed shows. I am sure it is very fun and exciting. Also go visit the city of Santa Cruz. It is such a fun place with so much to do. FamilyManDude

In the Garden: Gardeners’ patience creates ‘naked’ color (The Adobe Press)
Love ’em and leave ’em. That’s about all there is to successfully growing naked ladies in the garden. Aside from the shock value of their name, the sight of the South African bulbs is downright inspiring. Each plump bulb sends up several bare, rubbery-looking stems about 18 inches tall.
