If you replace the entire door unit you can remove the interior trim and get a true rough opening size. i have also framed openings smaller to make standard size doors work. you can use oversized or stacked trim mouldings to cover the gaps. good luck. you may also be able to find a door that is close at a salvage yard or recycling building materials center (habitat re-store?). you could trim to fit and cost would be lower. most building centers including lowes and home depot can custom order your door and/or door slab. you may want to consider going with a smaller door 30″ with nominal 10″ sidelites.
