Yes, Santa Cruz is great

I live in a great community. It’s a smallish town on the Monterey Bay called Santa Cruz in the state of California. This photo above is of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. Great dinning on the wharf and you can see sea lions and fishing is allowed. It’s a nice place for a stroll.
There is around 56,000 population in Santa Cruz. The city is next to the ocean or Monterey Bay to be more accurate. We have an old fashioned beach boardwalk with a great roller coaster called the Giant Dipper, a wonderful merry-go-round, bumper cars, cotton candy etc.
The UCSC campus is next to the town on the hill in the redwoods. All those students have greatly influenced Santa Cruz. It is a very liberal, earth-friendly, pot tolerant community.
Some say this is good while others feel the university ruined a sleepy little ocean-side community. It is unfortunate that these part-time citizens are allowed to vote in Santa Cruz rather than in their home community….that was the tipping point that greatly changed our town.
Surfing is also very big in Santa Cruz. In fact we have an ongoing battle with Huntington Beach about who is really “Surf City” And biking is everywhere as is skateboarding. Some enjoy kayaking in the bay.
Of course we are close to great hiking trails in the near by redwoods. There’s something for everyone in SC. Just taking a walk around the neighborhoods is interesting because the housing is not homogeneous…lots of cute little cottages and some Queen Anne’s tucked away.
So plan a day-trip to check out Santa Cruz or stay awhile. You may even consider moving here because of the beauty of this area. And the best kept secret is that Santa Cruz is sunnier that the south end of Monterey Bay where Carmel and other more well known towns are located.
