Downtown Santa Cruz …is it clean?

dog in downtown Santa Cruz

There was a very interesting letter to the editor
in the Santa Cruz Sentinel today. It was titled “Find a way to allow dogs downtown“.

The author had bought a condo into the downtown area only to discover that there is a ban on walking dogs on the main downtown street, Pacific Garden Mall or Pacific Avenue.

She was correctly bothered by this dumb law. She went on to say that most of the streets adjacent to the main downtown street, Pacific Ave, were dirty, dingy unpleasant places to walk her dog.

She then went into detail about the general dirty downtown area. And how many citizens seems not to care and contribute to the mess. She said they seemed inconsiderate of others.

She continued that she is considering moving to Palo Alto or Los Gatos where the towns are clean and have dog friendly ordinances.

I couldn’t agree with her more about these problems and mostly about the inconsiderate attitude of many of Santa Cruz’s citizens.

People are rude, cut you off in traffic and seem to have a general feeling of entitlement to act very self indulgence.

This self indulgent attitude is one of my major complaints about Santa Cruz. It’s a problem that has only gotten worse over the years.

And, yes, it is age related. This type of behavior is more prevalent among young people. This is another negative factor of the influence of the university, UCSC.
