Downtown Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz has a great downtown area that is called Pacific Garden Mall or Pacific Avenue.
There are many cute shops and places to eat, museums and movie houses. Don’t forget the bookstores too. There can be homeless asking for a handouts on the streets but they are not too aggressive. And the area is safe for the whole family.
If you go on Halloween or New year’s Eve there are impromptu parades with lots of interesting people wondering around. Downtown at any time is great people watching territory.
They are opening up more new condos downtown so that is a nice touch too. The area does after a nightlife element with a few clubs downtown.
